The EU reached a political agreement on Thursday laying down the standards with which spouses and children can reunite with a family member coming from a third country but residing lawfully in an EU State.
This agreement, which is less restrictive than the Commission's original proposal, comes after three years of discussion, and is the first legal instrument adopted by the Community in the area of legal immigration.
