This EU election, marked by the triumph of the ultra-nationalist Brothers of Italy party led by Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni, was probably the strangest in Italian history. Turnout was at a record low, with less than 50 percent of eligible voters going to the polls. Strong left-right polarisation returned after many years. And
