UN and NATO superfluous, says Washington advisor

The UN and NATO are superfluous and no longer able to provide security in the 21st century, according to American governmental adviser Richard Perle.
In an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung Mr Perl called for debate after the Iraq war on how Western democracies in the future can guarantee their common security.

Mr Perle is seen as one of the hawks in the Washington’s circles together with defence minister Donald Rumsfeld.
"Our right to self-defence under article 51 in the UN Charter can not be taken away from us", Mr Perl said and promised: "We are going to win this war, and the Iraqi people will say themselves, that we have liberated them."
