Convention tackles EU's foreign and defence policy

The difficult debate on the EU's common foreign policy and security policy (CFSP) started on Wednesday among members of the leading body of the Convention on the Future of Europe.

The steering committee, or presidium, has given itself until the end of this month to produce constitution articles on a fledgling policy left in tatters by the recent deep splits over the Iraq crisis.
